Petit Verdot
Basics: Found mainly in the temperate Bordeaux region St.Emilion subdistrict and used to make a red wine later blended with other famous Bordeaux varietal wines.

Comments:

(by County)
  • CARROLL: Grows nicely here.
  • FREDERICK: Easy to grow and ripen, but definitely a blender.
  • QUEEN ANNE'S: Consistent, good ripening, dark color, rich flavor. Can be too strong if not blended with another variety. Does well/high yields.

Recommendations:
Trailing growth pattern. Maybe the easiest of the Bordeaux varieties to grow in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Considerations:
Higher Acidity than Cab Sauv. Used to add color and complexity in blends. Extremely popular in Virginia as a varietal.
