Comments:

(by County)
  • CALVERT: Seems to do well once it gets started.
  • CARROLL: Did very well last year, not as much fruit as Cab Franc or Cab Sauv.
  • CARROLL: Does well but does not color and mature unless the nights are cool late in the year
  • CARROLL: Great Growth, awsome fruit, makes great light bodied wine, customers have been very pleased. Planting more this year.
  • CECIL: One of my plantings has struggled with diseases & the other has problems ripening. I don't think the growing season is long enough.
  • HARFORD: Needs lots of crop management and no hurricanes before harvest, but otherwise, are pleased with this variety.
  • QUEEN ANNE'S: Grows well, avoid overcropping otherwise it will not mature.

Recommendations:
Likes to overcrop, but thinning must be correctly timed or remaining fruit will swell.

Considerations:
Late ripening red that produces wines with pronounced tannins and acidity. Character can vary from leather through to the essence of red cherries and plums. Sometimes made as a dry rose.
