This was the first M.G.G.A. Survey conducted since 2001. While there is a significant shortfall in Maryland Grape production to be able to meet Winery demand, there has been tremendous growth during the last five years. The number of vineyards in Maryland has grown by 61% and total vines & acreage have more than doubled, but at the same time, the number of wineries has doubled and projections show that 14 of the 34 respondents who report they will be a new Commercial grower by 2010 also report that they will be opening a winery by 2010.
